Jennifer (Madeleine Stowe) is a beautiful, spoiled young woman whose world has fallen apart. First she catches her husband in "flagrante delicto" with her best friend and then discovers that she is not the daughter of Patrician blue bloods but the heir to one of America's most ruthless mafia Dons, Angelo Calvecchio (Anthony Quinn). Angelo had given her up for adoption when a mafia turf war killed his wife and threatened his baby daughter.

Jennifer discovers the truth only many years later when Angelo dies and bequeaths her his loyal and most trusted bodyguard, Frankie (Sylvester Stallone). It is a gift that neither gift nor giftee is happy or comfortable with. But with Angelo's death reigniting the turf war, they both learn to trust, rely on and perhaps even love each other.
