Pompeii, Paul W.S. Anderson‘s high-profile flop, was still the biggest local box-office earner among Canadian films last year. As such, the Germany-Canada co-production will pick up a Golden Screen award as the top-grossing local movie at the Canadian Screen Awards on March 1 in Toronto, organizers said Wednesday.

Pompeii grossed over $4 million in Canada in 2014, enabling Canadian co-producer Don Carmodyto grab his ninth Golden Screen trophy for Anderson’s 3D disaster movie fully financed by German partner Constantin Film and shot in Toronto.

Pompeii starred Keifer Sutherland, Kit Harington, Carrie-Anne Moss, Emily Browning, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje and Jessica Lucas. Earlier and more successful co-productions between Carmody and Constantin like The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, Resident Evil: Retribution andResident Evil: Afterlife also earned Golden Screen awards.

Sutherland, who played the villain in Pompeii, will be a presenter at the Canadian Screen Awards, which are to feature first-time Golden Screen trophies for the most watched Canadian TV series.
