Jennette McCurdy To Topline Thriller Drama Series For Netflix & Canada’s City

April 8, 2015

In Netflix’s first collaboration with a Canadian network, the streaming giant has teamed with Canada’s No.3 commercial broadcaster City for a new drama series to be headlined by Nickelodeon comedy star Jennette McCurdy in her first TV gig since the abrupt end of Sam & Cat. Also part of the Netflix-City partnership is shomi, a Canadian-based streaming service — considered a potential rival to Netflix — which will be launched next month by City parent Rogers Media and Shaw Communications, owner of rival Canadian commercial broadcaster Global.

Canadian Thriller ‘Between’ Gets Premiere Date On Netflix

Titled Between, the survivalist thriller series was created by Canadian writer/director Michael McGowan (Still Mine). It tells the story of a town under siege from a mysterious disease that has wiped out everybody except those 21 years old and under and chronicles the power vacuum that results when a government has quarantined a 10-mile diameter area and left the inhabitants to fend for themselves.

The six-episode first season, which starts production today, will premiere on City and shomi in Canada and on Netflix outside of Canada where the service is available. Between also will be carried by Netflix Canada one year following the initial premiere. McGowan executive produces along with Don Carmody (Resident Evil), David Cormican (The Tall Man), and Naveen Prasad. Canadian-born Emmy-winning director Jon Cassar (24) will helm the first two episodes. The series is produced by Don Carmody Television, Mulmur Feed Co. and in association with Elevation Pictures Corp.
